I really enjoyed the Curtis Brown course - I heartily recommend it to anyone interested in writing.
As part of the course I got some feedback from a published author and have just had a call with him. In essence, he was kind enough to say that the manuscript is nearly there but that it needs tightening up. The first part of that is to take 20,000 to 30,000 words out of it (!). I've now done the easy 15,000 of that and am heading back to the start to get into the detail and examine every sentence. Worryingly, I'm looking forward to it.
